Lightly sketch in the cat. I choose to work on canvas this time, and once again, I use the grid method to create a very accurate sketch (see here).

I encourage you to be more expressive with this piece. Add patches of color and stretch your palette to use as many variations of your color choices as possible. You may even want to set aside your reference image so that you truly paint from your gut.

Next, wash in color, starting with your darkest values. I choose a dark blue-violet for my darkest areas and background, and values of yellow and red-violet for the rest of the piece.
